About Us

Fashions in apparel come and go, but some styles of clothing evolve as a culture unto themselves, with roots deep in history and branches fresh in contemporariness. The saree and its varieties are as diverse and rich as the languages spoken in India. Sarees lend themselves to all occasions, from the highest ceremonies to casual gatherings. With myriad traditions of weaving, spellbinding designs and the feel of the innumerable styles, it is but natural that the saree is among the most celebrated clothing in the world.

Our founder, Srilakshmi Balakrishnan, has spent many years in search of the best sarees and she is on a mission to spread the celebration of the saree. Thus was born Sharvari's - out of our founder's vision to make available classy designs on the best varieties of fabric from the length and breadth of India.

The Sanskrit word 'Sharvari' means 'starry night'. The brand shares its name with the adorable little Sharvari, the founder's daughter.

Our logo features a woman who is looking upward, with her saree's pallu undulating in the wind. The open lines of the sketch denote her open mind and her style is that of a woman who is comfortable with traditions blending into modernity. The flowing lines are mostly shaped like an 'S'. The 'S' of the text 'Sharvari's' forms a shoulder of the woman, and segues the word seamlessly into the image. 'Delightful' is the word we want our sarees to evoke in the mind of the viewer, and the text says as much. The colour red denotes joy, and on white background, it turns the lines into an expression of delight.

We strive to bring to you the most carefully woven sarees that draw on traditional knowledge and skills built over generations and centuries. Sarees are not merely some metres of fabric; they are heirlooms, passed from grandmothers to mothers to daughters, as treasures to hold dear. It is therefore essential that only the best fabric with the choicest designs, and the most skilled weaving is selected as investment. Especially while shopping online, there may be doubts on your mind about the quality and authenticity of the silk you are likely to purchase. We provide you assurance on that count - natural silk sarees on our website come with silkmark certification. This is a certification given by the government guaranteeing purity of silk that you pay your hard-earned money for. Through our offerings, we cherish and celebrate the creativity, care, and skill of the artisans of India and the rich diversity in clothing that is unique to India.

Happy draping!
