Collection: Matka Muslin Sarees

Matka silk is a coarse handloom mulberry silk woven in Malda and Mushirabad districts of West Bengal. Quite popular for its affordability, it resembles tweed cloth in texture. Additionally, this saree has a nice fall to it, making it easy for even beginners to drape it. Its double thread weaving and irregularity lends strength to the fabric. The jamdani thread weaving used for creating floral designs on this saree is sure to make you fall in love. Jamdani weaving is so intricate that the front and the back of the saree look the same and no threads stick out on either side of the saree.

Muslin silk comes from a premium variety of silk grown in Bengal . Muslin silk was in high demand with the royals over centuries and was coveted for its thin and diaphanous fabric. It is said that muslin silk is "as thin as air" and loved for its lightweight and stunning royal looks. It gained popularity from the 17th century and continues to have its exotic appeal to this day.
